Become a Preferred Practitioner
The quality and content of oncology massage and esthetics education is integral to the mission of the Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM) and the Society for Oncology Esthetics (S4OE).
Individuals diagnosed with cancer face a multitude of challenges. These challenges, which may last a lifetime, often begin at diagnosis and continue through treatment, recovery, and survivorship.
To ensure consistent safety and efficacy for all therapists working with this population we have developed Education Standards for Oncology Massage and Education Standards for Oncology Esthetics. Foundational Courses provided by Recognized Education Provider Organizations (REP Orgs) adhere to these education standards. Standards are based on clinical knowledge, practical experience, and evidence-based research. With this foundational education in techniques and considerations, therapists learn to adapt standard massage therapy and esthetic care techniques to work safely and effectively with people whose health history includes cancer.
Note: Some therapists have achieved the necessary knowledge and clinical skills in oncology massage through means other than an S4OM or S4OE recognized foundational course. For those individuals we provide a Preferred Practitioner Alternate Pathway. These applications are considered on a case-by-case basis.
