The Society for Oncology Massage (S4OM) was created at the first national oncology massage convention, the Oncology Massage Healing Summit, held in the spring of 2007 in Toledo, Ohio.
Over 150 therapists and 20 faculty members attended two days packed with lectures, workshops, and fellowship. One participant summed up the weekend by saying, "I find I am a blood member of a tribe I didn't know existed." For a review of the meeting in Massage Today, click here.
The Society established itself as a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization in 2008 and began accepting members in the spring of that year. Our membership ranks continue to grow among massage therapists, schools, hospitals, clinics and anywhere else caregivers and people affected by cancer live and work.
It is our goal to make safe, effective massage therapy available to anyone who needs and wants it, worldwide. Thank you for your interest and support!
